The main deterrent for me for not purchasing Bobbi Brown lipsticks has been the pricing! They are super expensive, a full size lipstick is priced at US$37 a piece! For a lipstick enthusiast like me, who likes to try and buy as many different lipsticks as i can, pricing is a major concern. And that’s the reason I was so happy to find this mini kit in the value section of Sephora website.
This cute lip kit comes in a stylish packaging with vivid graphic prints on it’s outer cardboard shell.
The little lipsticks are packaged exactly as their full-size counterparts, in a shiny, gold finish. Considering the fact that these lipsticks are less than half in quantity of the full size ones (full size is 3.8g), its quite impressive how well made they are. The quantity is quite adequate and would easily last me a long while!
Even though I loved the finish of the packaging, the casing is plastic and not metal as is in most luxury brands. (like the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy ones have a super luxe packaging, read review here )
The best thing about these lipsticks is the pigmentation. They are richly saturated and one swipe is enough to deposit an opaque layer of colour on your lips.
The consistency is very smooth and buttery, almost like a lip balm. They have a plumping effect on lips and fill up the lip creases making them appear fuller and youthful.
These lipsticks have a satin finish and have a glossy look when freshly applied. The gloss is retained a long period of time unless something touches your lips.
Parisian Red is a true yellow-based red which will most skin tones!
Hibiscus is a mauve-plum shade which is quite trendy. It truly is a universally flattering shade and would suit all skin tones. This one was swiftly picked up by my mum!
Longevity is good for a satin lipstick and they last well over 4-5 hours. They are not transfer-proof and tend to get deposited on everything that touches the lips – cutlery, tumbler etc. The pigmentation saves as the day as it leaves an even stain on the lips, which lasts for good 5-6 hours.
These lipstick need a good oil-based makeup remover to be cleaned properly.
There is also no noticeable fragrance, which is fantastic as I do not really liked strong scents or tastes in my lip products.
Over all, the quality of these lipsticks is really good and you would love them if you like the glossy/satin look. I love the mini sized versions, they are value for money! I feel people with creased lips (like mature people have) would much prefer this finish than a suede or matte finish.
I would rate them 4.2/5
Personally, I prefer matte lipstick simply for their longevity.
