My Experience :
Hope you all have been enjoying the cold wave that has gripped us all in the Northern hemisphere.. I am loving and hating it at the same time!
Well, if you have been reading my post, you know i love a good Matte lip. But the dry and harsh winters sap my lips of any moisture leaving them chapped. I do take care of them with help of my trusted Burt’s Bees lip balms but some matte formulas are so unforgiving that they exaggerate every flaw there may be of my lips.
So i was very exited to know about the L’Oreal Color Riche L’Extraordinare Liquid lipsticks in matte finish as they very well may be the answer to my prayers.I did a ‘first impressions’ sort of review of the range & the shade Pigalle Scarlet earlier (read here) but this one is a more in-depth review as i have been using this product for over a month now.
To cut the story short and if you did read my previous post about these, most of my 1st impressions are true!
These come packaged in a rose gold plastic tube with a tiny window in front depicting the shade in it. Its not the actual product you are seeing, just a color depiction. The same color coding features at the bottom, mentioning some details about the product. The rose gold details looks very luxe, until it starts to chip off with every day use. After all, its plastic.
The fresh product comes wrapped in a plastic shell which features the product details like the range name, bar coding, ingredients etc. The good thing is that you know its fresh because its in the casing, the bad thing is that all that information is lost once you open that shell.
The applicator wand of these lipsticks is not the usual doe-foot once. Its actually shaped almost like a diamond but is flattened like a spatula. So you can use both sides of it with ease to kind of layer/paint the product onto your lips.It may not appear so, but it actually is quite easy to shape the lips with this applicator. it picks up decent amount of product but i usually need at least 2 dips to get a desired application.
The consistency is a bit mousse-like. These remind me of the NYX Soft Matte lipsticks in this aspect.
The pigmentation of these lipsticks is quite good. In fact, that’s one of the best things about these. They almost have a staining quality to them, very YSL lip stains like. That’s not surprising L’Oreal Paris and YSL are under the same umbrella of companies. The color-payoff on the lips may vary person to person depending on the amount of pigmentation on your lips though. On my slightly pigmented lips, they conceal my natural lip color completely.
This particular shade attracted me as it appeared to be a very MLBB everyday shade. Had it been the exact shade depicted on the tube, it would have been my perfect MLBB shade. However, it appears more pink on the lips. Nevertheless, its a beautiful, youthful yet subtle, everyday shade that i can just slap on my lips with almost any outfit for any occasion. It would pair up very well with a smoky eye too.
Here I have compared it to my personal favorite MLBB shade and the very popular Revlon Matte Balm lip crayon in Sultry.
They apply beautifully, simply glide on like a gloss. Layering is easy and there is no patchiness at all with this particular shade. Initially they appear a bit glossy but settle to a velvet finish. They never go completely matte. For this reason, they feel quite comfortable and supple on the lips throughout their wear-time.
These are not transfer proof, nor do they claim to be. They tend to transfer to anything or everyone your lips may touch! That means you could expect to see lipstick stains on cups, cutlery and your partner!
The longevity is quite average, as expected. They last on me for about 4 hours, after which they fade away evenly leaving a slight stain to the lips. The lighter shades like this one tend to fade away faster. They are not smudge-proof or water-proof. They can be easily removed with any makeup remover.
There is a slight scent to it, more like a flowery one. But it fades away upon application on the lips.
These did not cause any allergic reaction to me – skin or respiratory.
Over all, i quite enjoy this range of lipsticks in the winter months as they one of the better drugstore options for dry lips. I find myself reaching out for this range more than my matte lipsticks as of now. But if you are someone who wants a smudge-proof lippie that wouldn’t budge, these are not for you.
I would rate these a 4.25/5.
Have you tried this range, how was your experience?
