Today’s review will be of the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural pressed powder in Dark which I use for contouring my face.
It retails for Rs 1400 for 10gms
MAC says (Product Claims): A luxurious, domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural matte finish.Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set & fix foundation or as a touch up throughout the day.Contains our 77 mineral complex and Vitamin E.
My experience with the product :
The tricky thing about finding that perfect contouring product for me has been to find the perfect shade with the perfect formula. Most drugstore or cheaper versions are too cool toned for my olive skin tone and i personally dont prefer cream or stick versions. compact bronzers with shimmer and sheen are also available on various websites but in my opinion they just negate the purpose of contouring.
After trying various drugstore contouring products, i ended up at the local MAC counter to look for options there and as expected, i walked out with something i loved!
I have to confess though,i went in to find the famous MAC Matte bronzer about which i had heard great things. But to my dismay (and horror), it comes only in ONE shade. The MUA over there suggested i try the deeper color of the Mineralize face powder as i use a foundation from that range. I wasn’t convinced but when she tried it on me, it was love on first sight!
MAC Mineralise Skinfinish natural face powder comes in a compact form of plastic pan. The lid is transparent, hence you can see the shade and the product in the pan. There is no mirror or applicator provided with this. The packaging is basic but sturdy.
The finish of the product is absolutely natural. Its matte but not chalky at all. The powder is very finely milled and the softest and smoothest pressed powder i have ever come across.
It blends easily and can be built up or toned down according to the kind of contouring you want, natural finish or deep contouring.
One of the best things about this is the wide shade range. It comes in 8 different shades ranging from Light to Deep Dark. Its hard to NOT find your shade.
This powder doesn’t cake up on me even if i layer it on. it lasts about 4 to 5 hours in summers (without primer) but needs touch up after that. Since its a powder itself, you don’t need to set it at all. However, you can use it to set a cream bronzer.
MAC suggests using a Duo fiber stippling brush to apply this.I use a contouring brush with synthetic bristles to apply and blend it out.
According to me,all skin types should be able to use it. It doesn’t cause any breakouts on my currently sensitive skin.
At the price point, you get a good 10 grams of the product. But the thing with this is, a little goes a long way. I think this will last me a good 2 years even if i use it everyday! And i have used it as a crease eyeshadow too.
The only cons i can list about this product is that it’s not very travel friendly. Its a baked face powder, so if you drop it.. the pan will shatter. And the fact that no mirror and applicator comes with it.
Overall, i love the natural finish this powder gives to me and i can use it everyday. Its work appropriate too. And the price justifies the quantity and quality of the product. i would rate it 4.75/5. Highly recommended.
Note : As we know that MAC has relaunched the Mineralize range with certain changes, the newer packaging of Skinfinish Natural pressed powder comes with a glossy opaque lid and it does have a mirror in the compact. It comes in 15 shades and retails for $32. I am not sure of the availability in India.
